Senior Construction project manager for Icon, delivering technical projects. Along with project management, I serve as the company’s Services Manager for the Perth Office. Assisting all types of project in the design, coordination, installation and commissioning across all services.

Project involvement:

  • Wellington St Student Accommodation ($52M) – Project Manager (split role) for the Planning, Design and Procurement for this 40 story student accommodation consisting of 433 beds and commercial tenancies

Senior Project Manager – Information Technology Infrastructure

Working in an ITIL®/Prince2®/Agile® environment in University Services, oversaw the end-to-end design, procurement and deployment of IT networks/telecommunications for all new builds and large refurbishments across all University Campuses. Mentored a number of Project Manager into similar roles due to increased building developments. Simultaneously, managed a number of diverse projects including firewall, server and system refresh, replacements and migrations.

  • New Build IT deployments – 11 Barry St, Arts West, Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, Bio21 Stage 2B, WEBS, Werribee Teaching & Learning – oversaw the building communication design, Cisco network procurement, configuration and deployments, along with Cisco phone, printer and bespoke IT systems integrations

Implementation Manager/Senior Project Consultant    

Originally hired on as a senior project consultant to mentor the project manager in Malaysia for two months after which worked out of the Essendon Fields office to manage several implementations and feasibility studies.

Project involvement:

  • PETRONAS Warehousing and Distribution – Guided the project team in Malaysia with the start up and implementation of the supply chain & distribution solution for oil & gas by-products, for customer PETRONAS.
  • Compiled Project Initiation Documentation outlining all tasks and outcomes

  • BP & Shell Fuel Distribution ($40M) – Melbourne/Sydney/Brisbane – Managed the implementation and transition of the bulk fuels distribution for Shell in Victoria and BP in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. Managed stakeholder groups along with the procurement of $28M worth of prime movers, single barrel and B-Double trailers combinations (56 in total). Oversaw the recruitment and training of 150 drivers and staff to operate out of three locations. Managed the acquisition of three set down properties across three states and developed them with driver amenities, staff offices and truck set down areas.
  • Dulux Warehouse Consolidation ($28M)- Sydney – Lead a team to review the feasibility of combining two warehouses into one large 24,000 m2 distribution centre, for a large international manufacturer of protection and finishing products.  From concept design, project planning, centre of gravity studies to compiling financial models for a 10 year contract along with identifying an appropriate site, this feasibility project was completed and submitted for customer approval
  • P&G Warehouse 3 Transition ($4.6M) – Managing the transition of four customers (Tobacco and Banking) from an existing facility in Greystanes to a new warehouse in Erskine Park. Project planning, stakeholder coordination and IT transition are fundamental components to a successful transition

Project Manager – Information Technology Infrastructure

Working in an ITIL®/Prince2® environment in the Information Technology Services department as an IT Project Manager, my role was to advise and implement the IT/IPTEL solution for all new builds and refurbishments across all eight campuses of the University of Melbourne along with the relocation of staff and students into their new facilities. Responsible for a team of network engineers, we were tasked with the design of the physical and wireless networks, Cisco equipment procurement, installation and activation of IT networks, to University specifications, running 10 – 20 projects concurrently at any given time. In charge of the engagement and management of vendors, consultants and contractors along with liaising with Construction Project Manager to advise specification and approve installations on larger builds.

Key Project involvement:

  • Faculty of Business and Economics – Network design, implementation and relocation of approximately 250 staff, along with interactive lecture and meeting rooms, across 6 levels of an existing building. Implemented expanded wireless access, installed new switches and migrated existing network access to allow for a seamless relocation
  • Faculty of Arts Student Centre – Network design and implementation of a new student centre for the faculty. Oversaw installation of student computer labs, student queuing kiosks and student/staff meeting rooms in time for term start
  • Austin Hospital Campus – Managed an audit of existing IT network infrastructure serving approximately 150 University staff and students across 5 buildings. Outlined network upgrade options to client and implemented chosen option which included new fibre links, switches and wireless network coverage.

Transferred over from Incoll/Savills, to continue working on the design, construction and delivery of an integrated Air Traffic Control (ATC)Tower& Aviation Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF)facility, in Broome, WA. Additionally, supervised the “Go Live” of the National Towers Program, which included Broome, Melbourne, Adelaide and Rockhampton new ATC towers.

    • Design & Construct contract for the disaster recovery facility

Initially started with Incoll managing new builds and refurbishments for the Building the Education Revolution (BER) within the Melbourne and Loddon-Mallee region. Following the BER start up, was seconded to Airservices Australia to join the National Towers Program (NTP) – the programming, design management, construction and delivery of four new Air Traffic Control (ATC) Towers across Australia.

  • Integrated Air Traffic Control Tower and Aviation Rescue and Fire Fighting Facility at Broome International Airport, WA
  • Temporary Class D ATC facility at Broome International Airport, WA
  • Involved in the above projects with regards to all stage of planning, design documentation, contractor procurement, budgeting, stakeholder consultation and management

Design Manager/Senior User

Coordinating 35 Research Group’s in Health Science, Chemistry, Animal Welfare, Applied Science and the Nano Fabrication group – 4D Labs, in all aspects of project planning, design, equipment documentation and construction. Essential to this role was to understand the stakeholder’s equipment and operational requirements and to translate these requirements into a functionally designed facility. This was a $100M, design-build fast track building, which was designed while under construction, with a total design and construction time of 2.5 years

Technical and Science Complex 2 (TASC2) included:

  • Coordinating over 300 stakeholders
  • Animal Resources Centre – 1,700 m2
  • Wet Research Labs – 3,000 m2
  • Class 100 Clean rooms – 400 m2
  • Server Rooms and Offices
  • Introduced new sustainable design technologies to facilitate better Science
  • Procurement, relocation and installation of $40M worth of research equipment

Reporting on cost, time, program and risk directly to the Vice-President of Research and Building Committee consisting of the University’s governing council, this project was delivered on time, to budget and functionality required by the users.

Research Technician

Concurrently with the above role, responsible for the operation and maintenance of the gas chromatograph/mass spectrum facilities for the Chemistry Department. Analysis of samples for the research groups on campus and for industry. Familiar with all states of GC/MS, MALDI, electrospray, quadrupole and ion trap technologies.

Computer Science and Natural Science Technician           

Responsible for the start-up and operation of the Computer Science Department’s servers, networks and computing laboratories for the University. Setup of servers and networks included programming Authentication, LANs, NFS, DHCP, TCP/IP, FTP, SSH, Sendmail, Apache2, Databases (MySQL & Postgre), Java/JDK, PHP, CGI, Perl and other Computer Science applications.

Also responsible for the installation, operation and maintenance of all research and teaching equipment in the Chemistry Department including a GC/MS, 400Mhz NMR, FTIR, UV-Vis and HPLC. Undertook analysis of samples for researchers and industry, along with training students on the equipment.

System and Network Administrator/Security Consultant

Administrator for the Science Department across 25 servers for over 5000 users. Responsible for the installation of network lines and switches. Familiar with TCP/IP, RedHat, Solaris 8, Cisco switches and Synoptics hubs. Developed remote internet access sites for students and employees, along with security analysis of production systems – intrusion and penetration detection.
